125 Leaves

Mixed media on paper

In 2020 Emma took on a project to paint/draw/interpret one object everyday for 125 days. She cut up her paper, made a pile, chose a subject and began her journey. Calling back to her early years in the Blue Mountains, she chose the eucalyptus leaf; an iconic form and plant native to Australia.

‘It was a fun, playful, gruelling, annoying, challenging, and rewarding journey, but most importantly a great learning curve within my practice. I am grateful for the diligence and patience it took me to get through.’

Here is a selection of some of her favourite pieces that formed throughout the process work.
